Concrete Light
Architecture Study
A photo study for a small architecture practice, focused on how daylight moves across raw concrete.
Brief
Show the building without people or furniture, so the material and proportions speak for themselves.
Approach
Three visits at different times of day, long exposures and a strict, quiet edit.
Outcome
Images used for the studio’s portfolio, an award submission and a printed monograph.
The building sits on a narrow street, so direct sun only reaches the main hall for about two hours a day. Most of the work was planning around that window and coming back when the sky was right.
Material
Raw concrete changes a lot with light. In the morning it looks warm and soft, at noon almost white, and in the evening it turns blue and heavy. The series follows those changes instead of hiding them.
Every frame was shot from a tripod at eye level, with no wide-angle distortion, so the proportions stay true to what the architects drew.
Edit
Out of around four hundred frames, twenty made the final set. The edit keeps the colours muted and the contrast gentle, so the images sit well next to the studio’s drawings and models.
